Excavation Pit
Archaeologists learn about human life in the past through excavations by digging down in a 4 square meter pit to record unearthed cultural relics and phenomena layer by layer. The earth wall between the pits is called a retaining wall, used to observe the strata and as a passageway. Tools involved in the excavation include three categories of excavation tools, such as spades (small flat shovels), bamboo knives and brushes, recording tools such as cameras and grid nets, as well as measuring tools such as benchmarks and compasses.
