Cultural Layer

A cultural layer is a layer of earth on sites of human habitation containing traces or remains of man’s activities. As the sequence of cultural layers shows the progression of time, it provides vital information for archaeological research into cultural development. There are four strata in the Shihsanhang archaeological site from top to bottom. The top layer is the accumulation of contemporary culture, and the modern cultural layer is the accumulation of the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period. The Shihsanhang cultural layer is the accumulation of artifacts of the people of Shihsanhang, and the fourth is raw clay with no traces of human settlement.
